There are three basic breathing techniques that are very useful for heart patients. These are Diaphragmatic Breathing, Deep Breathing (yogic breathing), and Even Breathing. These techniques are very useful for reducing angina symptoms, alleviating insomnia, and decreasing arousal of the sympathetic nervous system.

Due to lifestyle habits and stress, many cardiac patients have decreased function in the diaphragm muscle and some have reverted to chest breathing. In addition, the effects of bypass surgery can dramatically contribute to a compromising of the lung and diaphragm movement. The breathing techniques presented here can help restore full and proper functioning to the lungs and diaphragm and will be very beneficial for heart patients and also for those who want to take care of their heart health.
